Addressing the saturation of the existing economic activity park, WEX 2 is materializing with the start of its first phase of construction in Marche-en-Famenne. This new park aims to meet business needs by offering new plots, with development proceeding progressively based on demand.
The launch of this initial phase on September 21, 2026, marks a significant step in the region's economic development. The development of WEX 2 is planned in three phases, with subsequent stages contingent on business demand and actual land requirements, allowing the park's growth to align with the territory's economic outlook.
The works for this first phase, awarded to the general contractor Socogetra, are expected to conclude by mid-2028. They encompass the creation of roads, sewage and water supply networks, public lighting, signage, and the adaptation of the roundabout on the RN 839. This phase covers an operational area of 10 hectares and is projected to provide approximately 20 plots for new economic activities. The project cost is €5,384,792 excluding VAT, with 85% subsidized by the Direction de l’équipement des parcs d’activités (DEPA).
The development of WEX 2 places a strong emphasis on environmental considerations, particularly landscape integration and the preservation of natural habitats. The project includes planting native hedges, maintaining existing wet woodland, and conserving a wetland area near the farm. A stormwater basin will serve both hydraulic and ecological functions, featuring a wetland, ecological islets, and fauna habitats. Additional measures involve transplanting protected orchids, creating off-site compensatory ponds, maximizing the reuse of excavated soil to reduce transport, and limiting light pollution. Infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists is also planned.
