The list of shortage occupations, which permits employers to hire a worker from outside the European Union, has been updated. This new list will be applicable from October 1, 2026, and will remain in effect until September 30, 2027.
Within this framework, an employer can only recruit a foreign national if it is proven that no available job seeker, suitable for the position even after adequate professional training, can be found within a reasonable timeframe. The employment request must concern a position that does not align with specific occupations or qualification levels already stipulated by current regulations. Other strict conditions must also be met by the employer.
It is important to note that this list is subject to specific conditions and should not be confused with the general list of critical and shortage occupations published by Forem for Wallonia.
